Favorite Island Activities
Your visit to St. Thomas presents many possibilities for excursions, exploration, and pure enjoyment! We've been fortunate to experience so much of what our island has to offer and are delighted to make suggestions...
A Day at Magen's Bay...
This premiere beach is nearby on the island's northside. You can relax in a lounge chair or enjoy a variety of watersports activities. The beach bar offers frozen tropical drinks, and the neighboring concession stand serves lunch and light snacks. There is also a bountiful bathing suit boutique. The beach is nearly a mile long and is ideal for walking or jogging, and the neighboring Nature's Conservancy Trail provides a quiet shady canopy for hiking.
Find Fish...
Colorful schools of tropical fish and sensational underwater seascapes are the highlight of Coki Beach. It is a perfect place for snorkeling, and a dive shop on the beach offers SCUBA for beginners and certified divers. If you prefer to stay dry, the adjoining marine park, Coral World, has an underwater observatory tower and aquarium exhibits. And if catching fish was what you had in mind, there is a fine fleet of sportfishing boats based in Red Hook offering full and half-day charters.
Carefree Cruising...
A variety of sailboats and powerboats are available if you would like to spend a day on the water visiting quiet cays and secluded beaches. Most chartered excursions include snorkeling stops and lunch. The sunset cocktail cruises are a lovely way to end the day.
Dare to Drive...
If you're the adventurous type, a rental jeep provides the freedom and flexibility to explore our island to the fullest. Remember to drive on the left! On your sightseeing adventures, be sure to visit the scenic overlooks at Drake's Seat, Paradise Point, and Mountain Top. |

Best Stops on Beach-Hop...
There are many beautiful beaches on St. Thomas and you are welcome to beach-hop and find your personal favorite. It may be Sapphire Beach where the water truly reflects its name and sea turtles serenely swim. Or Secret Harbour which is quaint and quieter and has a neighboring reef for snorkeling. Or Smith Bay Park where locals and savvy visitors go to enjoy the surf but avoid the crowds. Each has a special allure waiting to be discovered.
Highlighting History...
If you wish to learn more about the colorful history of our island, historical walking and driving tours are offered regularly. You can walk through restored Danish residences and historic sites on Blackbeard's Hill, visit the botanical gardens at St. Peter Greathouse, savor scenic overlooks around the island, and learn about Caribbean architecture, West Indian culture, tropical flora, and local lore.
Eco-Excursions...
A thrilling outdoor adventure is offered on the island's new zipline course "Tree Limin' Extreme" which is set high in the rainforest on St. Peter Mountain with spectacular views of Magen's Bay, St. John, the BVI and beyond. Virgin Islands Ecotours offers kayak, snorkeling, and hiking excursions in the Mangrove Lagoon and also to Hassel Island--a small island in the harbor which is now part of the National Park.
Sojourn on St. John...
A trip to St. John is a wonderful way to enjoy a day. Ferries depart from the nearby Charlotte Amalie waterfront and from Red Hook on the island's East End. The exquisite National Park beaches are easily accessible via safari bus shuttles. At picturesque Trunk Bay, you can snorkel along a unique underwater trail. Hiking trails also abound throughout the National Park. The popular Reef Bay Hike visits sugar mill ruins and prehistoric petroglyph carvings. |

Visit Virgin Gorda...
If you enjoy island hopping, Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands is another excursion possibility. The Baths at Virgin Gorda are a spectacular site. Huge boulders on the beach form pools, grottos, and caverns for swimming, hiking, and climbing. Ferries and charter boats provide trips to the "B.V.I."-just remember to bring your passport. |
|
Tropical Tee Off...
If you are an avid golfer, we have a challenging course at Mahogany Run. It features a spectacular series of scenic holes overlooking the Atlantic surf. They have rental clubs and shoes available. |

Superlative Shopping...
Charlotte Amalie is the renowned shopping mecca of the Caribbean. Here you will find discount prices on jewelry, watches, liquor, and perfume. Everything is duty-free with no sales tax. Also, you can view intriguing and reasonably priced art at a gamut of galleries on the island. Our local boutiques display colorful Caribbean clothing and tropical gift items.
Delectable Dining...
Dining on the island is a delightful treat. There are a number of fine dining restaurants as well as casual cafés with specialties ranging from fresh seafood and continental cuisine to eclectic and local fare. We have a collection of menus for you to peruse and, fortunately, many of your best options are only minutes away.
Restful Relaxation...
While there is so much to see and do, relaxation is an integral part of island getaway and it is highly recommended! Whether it is napping at the beach, serenely floating on a raft in the pool, savoring a shady spot and a great book, indulging in a massage, or simply daydreaming in the hammock, we encourage you to relax, refresh, recharge and enjoy the essence of "island time"! |
